Fighting EX Layer is a 2D fighter built on the bones of Arika’s classic Street Fighter EX series. It uses the same character roster as Street Fighter EX2 Plus but adds new mechanics like chain combos and a running system that lets players close distance more fluidly. The Gougi system lets you alter character stats or game rules mid-match by meeting specific in-fight conditions creating opportunities to shift momentum on the fly. Single-player modes include story-driven campaigns and training tools while online and local multiplayer options cater to head-to-head showdowns. The Gougi system’s mid-match flexibility has drawn consistent praise from competitive players and fans of classic arcade brawlers. Despite its 2018 release it remains a staple in arcade cabinets and home libraries thanks to its fast-paced action and deep customization.
