Final Fantasy 20th Anniversary Edition is a remastered version of the first game in the iconic RPG series. It follows four Warriors of Light tasked with rescuing a kidnapped princess and restoring balance to a world shrouded in darkness. Combat uses classic turn-based mechanics with strategic character classes and elemental weaknesses. The story unfolds through text-heavy dialogue and pre-rendered cutscenes, blending straightforward quests with mythic stakes. New content from the Dawn of Souls port adds expanded dungeons and revised scripts, while updated visuals stretch the original 2D sprites to widescreen resolutions. This edition stands out for its nostalgic appeal and accessibility. The reorchestrated soundtrack and FMV sequences give the 1987 original a fresh coat of paint without altering its core charm. Community reviews highlight its status as a foundational entry for series newcomers and a polished artifact for long-time fans. Available on mobile and handheld platforms, it retains the deliberate pacing and class-based progression that defined early Final Fantasy titles. The inclusion of Yoshitaka Amano’s concept art adds visual depth for collectors.
"And so their journey began. The four Warriors of Light felt overwhelmed by the great task destiny had placed upon them. They did not know the true significance of the four crystals they held in their hands... The crystal that once, long ago, shone with a light so brilliant. The time for their journey had come. The time to cast off the veil of darkness and bring the world once more into the light..." The four Warriors of Light appear, each carrying a darkened crystal, one of each element. They arrive at Cornelia, a powerful kingdom that has witnessed the kidnapping of its princess, Sarah, by a rogue knight named Garland who wants to conquer the kingdom. Tasked with rescuing the princess, the Warriors set out for the Chaos Shrine - a temple of fiends - to confront Garland. And their journey begins.
