Chase chaos in this classic handheld arcade title. You control Mario or Luigi leaping to catch characters fleeing a burning castle. Toads, Yoshis, and Donkey Kong Jrs. plummet at different speeds while Yoshi Eggs drop random surprises. Catching a Toad gives one point. Eggs reward two points but can hide explosive Bob-ombs or power-up Moons. Let a Bob-omb hit the carriage and it explodes, costing you. Grab a Moon and score five points. The screen scrolls faster as you play adding urgency to every jump. The game’s simple physics and escalating tension make it addictive. Characters react to catches with animated flinches and sound effects while Peach’s occasional appearances offer a chance to erase mistakes by catching hearts. Released in 1997 it’s one of the earliest Mario games built for the Game Boy’s monochrome screen. Its fast reflex gameplay and retro chiptune music still feel brisk and rewarding two decades later.
