Fire One is a two player arcade shooter where you pilot a submarine in a split screen duel. Each side of the cabinet shows your first-person view of the ocean. Your goal is to locate and destroy the enemy sub while dodging their torpedoes. Use a periscope to aim and launch one of your eight torpedoes. Target enemy ships for bonus points but be careful, reloading takes time so every shot needs to count. The submerge button lets you dive temporarily to avoid attacks but leaves you vulnerable to enemy strikes. The split cabinet design forces direct competition, making it one of the earliest examples of arcade PvP. Developed in 1979 by a team including Susan Ogg, it predates many modern competitive mechanics. Players still cite its simple yet tense gameplay as a standout in early arcade history.
