About Five Nights at Freddy's

Scottgames released Five Nights at Freddy's on August 8, 2014. This indie title mixes simulator and strategy elements with classic point-and-click controls for a single-player experience on PC. You take a summer job as the night watchman at Freddy Fazbear's Pizza. The animatronics are programmed to entertain crowds, but their behavior turns unpredictable after dark. Your boss decided it was cheaper to hire you than fix them. You sit in a small office and must survive five nights before the business shuts down forever due to past scandals. The atmosphere feels heavy with dread as you monitor cameras to keep the robots from entering your workspace.

Gameplay

You spend each night sitting behind a desk with two doors and a camera system. The core loop involves checking monitors to locate animatronics like Freddy, Bonnie, Chica, or Foxy. You use limited electricity to close doors or power lights when you spot an intruder on the screen. Running out of power means all defenses fail instantly. You listen for audio cues to guess which door is open while watching the feed for movement. Each night gets harder as the robots move faster and more aggressively. The game relies on tension rather than action, forcing you to manage resources carefully until the clock hits 6 AM.

What Players Think

Players on PlayPile rate this title highly despite its simple mechanics. IGDB lists a score of 68.3 out of 100 based on 166 ratings. The community moods lean heavily into specific feelings, with Creepy getting 4 votes and Dark receiving 3 votes. Average playtime sits around four hours for most users who complete the main campaign. Review snippets often mention the sheer stress of managing power while waiting for the final night to end. Many players return to beat their high scores or unlock hidden endings. The low completion rate for later nights shows how challenging the difficulty spike becomes.

PlayPile's Take

This game works best if you enjoy high-stress survival scenarios without needing combat skills. It costs very little and offers a solid 5-night challenge plus extras. You earn achievements for surviving each night or finding secret content. The price makes it a low-risk purchase even if you hate horror games. Some players find the jump scares repetitive after the first few hours. I recommend this only if you can handle staring at static cameras for long periods. Finish the last night and see if your nerves hold up.

Storyline

Freddy Fazbear's Pizza was once a popular restaurant for adults and children alike. However, due to a number of incidents including the kidnapping and implied murder of five children by a man wearing an empty animatronic suit, sanctions by the Health Department over the numerous reports of dirtiness, and "The Bite of '87", the pizzeria has fallen on hard times. Freddy Fazbear's Pizza is set to close by the end of the year, as potential buyers do not want to be associated with the tainted reputation of the company. The four mascots - Freddy Fazbear, Bonnie the Rabbit, Chica the Chicken, and Foxy the Pirate had a particularly foul odor and what appeared to be "blood and mucus" around their eyes and mouths, which concerned parents had interpreted as "reanimated carcasses".
