"Physics based games are never my strong point, but I always like to give them a go to see if there’s one that will break the cycle for me and allow me to get better at them. Unfortunately Solar Flux offers very little in terms of complexity or excitement. Once I beat the game for review purposes I never went back to it, and there’s just too much available right now on Switch to really consider why I would want too."

Flux casts you as Maria, a young woman employed at Cohibeo Psychiatric Hospital. Your days involve caring for Youshitsuki, a patient trapped in fractured reality. The game’s hook: you access her mind through a television set, navigating distorted environments to piece together her memories and figure out the hospital’s secrets. Exploration drives the experience, mixing environmental puzzles with narrative discovery as you shift between the mundane world and Youshitsuki’s surreal interior. The game’s dreamlike atmosphere and nonlinear storytelling stand out, blending psychological mystery with quiet dread. While its 2012 release date shows in occasional clunky mechanics, players praise its haunting art style and narrative ambition. A niche title with cult appeal, Flux leans into slow-burn tension over action, offering a sparse but atmospheric take on mental health and institutional decay.
