Foes of Ali is a 3D boxing title from 1995 letting you play as legends like Joe Frazier, Sonny Liston and Muhammad Ali. Choose from three modes: pick fighters for custom bouts, reenact Ali’s famous matches or work through his real-life career as he takes on eight opponents in order. Basic punches and defenses drive the action with no fatigue mechanic but heavy hits stagger foes and make them bleed or swell. The 3DO version leans into its hardware with 21 camera angles, including a first-person view that distorts as you take damage, eyes blackening or vision doubling when hit hard enough. The game stands out for its reactive visuals and historical focus. Ali’s career mode follows his actual fights beat-for-beat, while championship portraits and Tim Gammon’s commentary add authenticity. Though dated by today’s standards, it’s a niche pick for retro sports fans. The 3DO platform’s short lifespan makes this release a curiosity, but the injury-based camera effects still feel bold for the mid-90s.
