Forest is a 1983 Atari 2600 game where you play a woodcutter fighting off animal attacks to reach and chop a tree. Move right across two screens while dodging or axing creatures that swarm from both sides. Snakes require jumps, while other animals can be chopped by timing button presses. A falling bird drops rocks that freeze your movement, and climbing the tree offers temporary safety. The goal is to land four chops on each side of the tree before it respawns at a faster difficulty. One mistake means instant restart. The game’s frantic pacing and rigid one-life system make it a relic of early arcade-style challenge. Despite its age, the tight controls and escalating speed keep it niche but functional for retro fans. Developer Tang’s Electronic Co. and publisher Goliath aimed for simplicity, and the result is a straightforward test of reflexes with no room for error. Community ratings rarely top moderate scores, but its historical curiosity and minimalist design earn it a spot in vintage collections.
