About

Forest of Drizzling Rain follows Shiori Kanzaki as she investigates her family’s past in a remote Japanese village after her parents die. The story unfolds through environmental exploration and quiet dialogue with quirky locals like a troublemaking schoolgirl, a grumpy cop, and a reclusive museum manager who only speaks in notes. Players piece together fragmented history by roaming decaying manors, reading documents, and uncovering unsettling secrets buried in the landscape. The gameplay leans into slow pacing and subtle tension rather than jump scares. The game’s strength lies in its eerie atmosphere and nonlinear storytelling. A foggy village setting and sparse audio design amplify loneliness, while branching choices let players shape their own path through the mystery. Though short, its 6-hour runtime earned a 7.5/10 on average from critics who praised its moody worldbuilding. Those looking for a calm but creepy narrative with no combat or puzzles might find it memorable.

Storyline

After the sudden death of her parents, a young woman named Shiori Kanzaki finds a picture of a man that she believes to be her grandfather, and travels to Azaka Village, where he was apparently from, in hopes of meeting him. However, when she arrives, she learns that her grandfather has already passed on, and the family manor converted to a museum. There she meets Sakuma, a middle school girl who tends to get herself in trouble; Officer Mochizuki, the cop who usually busts Sakuma; and Suga, the strange manager of the museum who only communicates in written memos. Suga grudgingly allows her to stay there for a while and research her family.
