Formation Soccer: Human Cup '90 is a 1990 vertical-scrolling soccer game from Human Entertainment that lets players manage match flow with precise button controls. The game offers two modes: a one-off Exhibition match and a bracket-style Human Cup tournament. Sixteen international teams are available, including some that didn’t technically qualify for the real 1990 World Cup like Denmark and Japan. Gameplay focuses on positional play and timed passes, with the screen scrolling up and down the field to keep pace with action. Though limited to Japan’s PC Engine at launch, this title laid the groundwork for Human’s later soccer series. Seven of the included teams actually made the 1990 World Cup roster, while others reflect regional interest. The game’s blend of real-world timing and fictional lineups highlights its era-specific charm. Players who later enjoyed Human’s Fire Pro Wrestling might recognize the company’s early sports game DNA here.
