About Foxhole

Foxhole is a multiplayer online game that blends real-time strategy, survival, and role-playing elements into a war-themed sandbox. Developed by Siege Camp and released in 2022 for PC, it positions players as soldiers in a persistent conflict where cooperation is key. The game emphasizes large-scale teamwork, with hundreds of players collaborating to build bases, manage supply chains, and execute military operations. Set in a war-torn world, it’s designed to feel organic and player-driven, avoiding scripted events in favor of emergent gameplay. The core goal is to create a war experience where every action, whether reconnaissance, logistics, or direct combat, shapes the outcome. It’s for players who enjoy long-term planning and collective problem-solving over solo action.

Gameplay

In Foxhole, you spend hours building and managing bases, laying out defenses, and ensuring resource flows to sustain your faction. Combat is real-time but team-dependent, with roles split between frontline fighters, medics, and engineers. The game demands patience: missions behind enemy lines take days to plan, and battles unfold over weeks as supply lines and morale shift. Mechanics like vehicle crafting and terrain manipulation add depth, but the learning curve is steep. You’re constantly toggling between construction, combat, and strategy menus, with no quick resets, each action impacts the live world. While reflexes matter in skirmishes, success hinges on coordination and logistics. The lack of a traditional progression system means focus stays on the war itself rather than individual power-ups.

What Players Think

Foxhole holds a 78% critic score and a 7.3/10 user rating on Steam. Average playtime per player is 12 hours, with 18% completing the game’s open-ended objectives. Community moods are polarized: 42% describe it as “stressful but rewarding,” while 29% call it “overly complex.” Twitch viewership peaks at rank #75, with streamers highlighting its chaotic, emergent warfare. Review snippets praise its “unfiltered teamwork” but criticize “grindy base-building.” The game lacks achievements, which may reflect its unfinished state. Player forums buzz with debates over balancing, suggesting the community is deeply invested despite rough edges.

PlayPile's Take

Foxhole is a niche pick for strategy fans who thrive in collaborative, grind-heavy environments. It excels in simulating the chaos of war but struggles with accessibility and pacing. With no price listed and ongoing development, it’s best suited for those who enjoy slow-burn, community-driven experiences. If you’re patient and value emergent storytelling over polish, it’s worth exploring. Otherwise, skip, it’s not a game that rewards casual play.

Storyline

Foxhole's goal is to make players truly feel like they are working together to direct the outcome of an open ended war. Some games have attempted to pull this off in the past, but many of the have been hindered by gameplay affecting microtransactions or mechanics that hold the player's hands too much, resulting in wars that feel artificial instead of truly organic and player driven. Our mission is to be uncompromising in delivering this experience. Our dream is to have hundreds of players working in unison to complete large scale operations that takes weeks to plan. We want players to be setting up supply lines, executing missions behind enemy lines, and banding together to defend key strategic locations throughout the world. These ideas are extremely ambitious, but we are confident that we can achieve them if we work together with the player community over the long term.
