Fran Bow Chapter 2 is a psychological horror adventure game where you follow Fran, a girl grappling with trauma after her parents' violent death. She flees into the woods with her cat Mr. Midnight but awakens in Oswald Asylum, a grim facility for troubled children. The cat vanishes, and Fran must navigate the asylum's disturbing environment to escape and reunite with her aunt. Gameplay involves solving puzzles that tie into Fran's fractured psyche, often requiring her to self-medicate to unlock surreal, hidden layers of the world. The story unfolds through eerie dialogue, environmental clues, and a mix of linear and abstract challenges. The game’s hand-drawn 2D art style stands out with its unsettling visuals and stop-motion animation. Puzzles vary in complexity but sometimes feel uneven, with some requiring precise timing or lateral thinking. The soundtrack adds to the claustrophobic atmosphere, though iOS device requirements are strict, older hardware may struggle with performance. Released in 2016, it continues Fran’s dark narrative but splits player opinions due to its pacing and technical demands.
After witnessing the gruesome and mysterious loss of her parents, found dismembered at their home, Fran rushes into the woods, together with her only friend, Mr. Midnight, a black cat that Fran had previously received as a present from her parents. In the forest, Fran goes into shock over the loss of her parents and when she recovers, she’s at Oswald Asylum, an oppressive mental institution for children, and Mr. Midnight is nowhere to be found. After having a dream about her beloved cat, Fran decides to escape from the mental institution to find him and go back home to Aunt Grace, her only living relative.
