About

Freedom: Diegesis flips the script on classic platformer tropes by casting you as a broken man in a crumbling world. Navigate shifting 2D landscapes filled with glitching geometry and warped physics while solving environmental puzzles to advance. The controls stick to familiar side-scrolling mechanics but the surroundings grow increasingly bizarre as you progress. Each level feels like a twisted reimagining of Mario-esque stages with enemies that defy logic and terrain that shifts underfoot. The game’s unsettling atmosphere comes from its fractured art style and unpredictable level design. Released in late 2016 it still holds a 72% on Metacritic from critics who praised its original concept even if execution sometimes falters. Small details like disappearing platforms that reform in new configurations keep each run feeling fresh. Minimalist dialogue and eerie sound design amplify the sense of isolation as you trudge through a world where nothing stays the same.

Storyline

This world was once a predictable place, where heroes stomped minions and rescued damsels. But now it is mutating into something much stranger. As a result the heroes are missing or unwilling, and the villains have huddled away searching for more from life. The protagonist, a disgraced prisoner, finds himself in over his head amidst these changes. He's tasked with infiltrating the Eastern Lands and rescuing his kingdom's princess in exchange for freedom. But he's no warrior, and the world's mutation is spreading...
