Freeway plops you and up to one friend into a chaotic ten-lane highway where chickens must dart between moving cars to reach the other side. Each successful crossing earns a point, but getting hit sends you back, how far depends on the difficulty. The game’s simplicity is deceptive; timing and quick reflexes are key as traffic speeds up. Single-player or two-player competitive modes let you race against a friend or the clock, with the goal of scoring the most points in under two minutes. While clearly inspired by Frogger’s traffic-jumping mechanics, Freeway carves out its own niche with a faster pace and retro charm. Its straightforward controls, only up and down movement, add to the challenge, making it a test of focus over strategy. Though released in 1981, it found a second life on Xbox 360 and PC in 2010, proving its lasting appeal. Casual players and Atari enthusiasts might find it addictive, though the lack of modern polish could be a hurdle for newcomers.
