About

Frontier is a sci-fi RPG for Dreamcast that tasks players with surviving on an alien planet teeming with hostile wildlife. Instead of fighting directly, players breed and deploy custom creatures using genetic material collected from defeated foes. These creations battle in environments filled with ruins and escalating threats while you strategize from the sidelines. The game blends resource management with combat as you refine DNA chains to face tougher enemies and unlock new areas. What sets Frontier apart is its focus on genetic experimentation as a core mechanic. Players could combine traits to create creatures adapted for specific challenges, a system ahead of its time. The game also offered co-op and competitive multiplayer modes, rare for RPGs in 2000. Though officially cancelled before release, it remains a cult curiosity among retro gaming circles. Community forums show consistent interest in its unrealized potential.

Storyline

Frontier's scenario involved exploring a planet populated by threatening alien life forms. To avoid risking their own lives, players had to create genetically modified creatures to take their place in a world of hostile environments, mysterious ruins and monsters each more dangerous than the last. Player progress was determined by the genetic material harvested from fallen enemies.

Game Modes

Single player, Multiplayer, Massively Multiplayer Online (MMO)
