Fuzzball is a platformer puzzle game from 1991 that mixes exploration with combat. You play as an apprentice magically transformed into a fluffy creature after messing with a wizard’s experiment. Now you must clear his castle of 50 levels worth of rogue fuzzballs and other foes. Each level is a single-screen maze where you collect hidden treasures while dodging enemies. You fight mostly by bouncing on foes or luring them into traps since direct contact means instant death. The challenge comes from tight platforming and a time limit, let the clock run out and swarms of mosquitoes finish you off. The game’s simplicity hides its difficulty. Every move requires precision due to the harsh penalties for mistakes. While the Amiga version defined its presentation, the core loop of methodical problem solving remains sharp. Community archives note its reputation as a frustrating but fair test of reflexes, with levels designed to reward careful planning over trial and error. Released over 30 years ago, it still feels like a relic of the era’s love for punishing but polished design.
