Finding live streams...
Gakkou no Kaidan is a point-and-click adventure built around full-motion video clips from a 1995 live-action horror film. Developed by JAMP for the Sega Saturn, you play as a child exploring a haunted school while solving puzzles and avoiding supernatural threats. Onscreen clay statues called Haniwa track collected puzzle pieces, while a flame gauge monitors health. Interactions pop up as pixelated prompts over pre-recorded scenes, requiring quick clicks or directional inputs to progress. The game mixes static exploration with timed decisions, often layering ghostly jump scares over its otherwise slow-burn atmosphere. This cult curiosity exists as a direct tie-in to its source film, released only in Japan. Its hybrid FMV approach feels dated but retains a strange charm, blending low-res visuals with abrupt interactivity. Limited to a single region and language, its legacy is niche, but retro adventure fans might appreciate its artifact status. With no modern remasters, it remains a curiosity for those chasing 90s Sega Saturn oddities.
The game is an interactive adventure which includes full-motion video taken from the movie, with the addition of pixel graphics overlaid on top of the video image to indicate that the player needs to take an action. For example, when the characters in the video encounter an obstacle, the game player will need to click left, right, or some other key combination in order to continue. The flame at the right side of the screen shows the player's health. The Haniwa statue at the left indicates how many puzzle pieces the player has collected. Haniwa statues are clay mementos which were traditionally used in funerals, and sometimes buried with the dead. In the game, the player takes on the role of one of the children trying to find a way out of the haunted schoolhouse. Pieces of the shattered Haniwa are scattered throughout the school. As the player navigates through the school, some locations bring up a video sequence. Other items in the school are clues, and health items.
