Galactic Chase is a straightforward shooter where you pilot a spaceship across the bottom of the screen, left or right, fending off waves of aliens. Enemy formations stick to repeating patterns but will split off to rush your ship. Collisions or enemy fire drain your three lives. Earn extra at 7000 points or after completing set levels. The challenge lies in balancing the predictable with sudden bursts of aggression. Released on Atari 8-bit in 1981, it’s a simple but effective entry in the genre. The restricted movement and minimal upgrades keep the focus on reflexes over strategy. While not as deep as later shooters, the tight controls and escalating difficulty made it a durable pick for short bursts of action. Its mechanics feel rudimentary by today’s standards but are polished enough to explain its modest reputation among early arcade converts.
