About

Gate of Doom is a 1990 arcade game that mixes action, role-playing, and beat 'em-up elements. Players pick from four heroes, a sword-wielding knight, a spellcaster, a bard, and a stealthy ninja, and battle hordes of demons in diagonal scrolling arenas. The game emphasizes fast combat and character-specific abilities like magic spells or thrown shurikens. Digital speech was a rarity in arcade games at the time, giving dialogue an oddly charming edge. Two players can team up for co-op, making it one of the era’s more social brawlers. The plot about sealing a dark gate with magic artifacts is standard fantasy fare, but the frantic action and mid-90s charm keep it memorable. Metacritic aggregates still highlight its quirky appeal for fans of retro arcade brawls.

Storyline

According to an ancient legend of the Kingdom of Etrulia, should the people get corrupted by wickedness, demons and devils would break through the Gate of Doom, ruling the land as their own. However, by the same time four heroes with different powers would be summoned by the Force Divine to destroy the monsters of darkness and using the magic gem and magic crown they would try to lock the Gate of Doom forever.
