Gauntlet Dark Legacy throws you into a medieval fantasy brawl where you slash, shoot, and spell your way through waves of enemies. Pick from eight distinct fighters like a fire-wielding Wizard or a nimble Archer and battle through forests, mountains, and lava fields. The game mixes pre-built levels from earlier entries with new ones, all packed with gold to grab and secrets to unlock. Up to four players can team up locally, though alliances are shaky, rules let you accidentally (or intentionally) hit teammates. The focus stays on fast-paced combat, with each character offering unique moves and playstyles to tackle hordes of goblins, trolls, and screen-clearing bosses. The sheer variety of characters and hidden modes keeps things fresh. Beyond the eight starters, dozens of secret fighters and alternate versions offer replayability. Environments shift constantly, from dense woods to fiery volcanoes, each teeming with new creature designs. While the 2000 release date shows its age, the split-screen co-op and rock-solid melee mechanics still land well for fans of classic arcade brawls. The mix of solo runs and chaotic multiplayer makes it a solid pick for groups looking for a bit of friendly (and occasionally brutal) competition.
