Gauntlet Legends is a beat 'em up RPG with co-op and split-screen modes that brings the arcade action to the Dreamcast. Players tackle four classic Realms from the original game, with some levels reworked and a new physics engine affecting movement and combat. Each character has unique abilities but no inventory system, items bought at post-level shops expire after a set time. Battles are fast and chaotic, requiring coordination to survive waves of enemies and environmental hazards. This port adds 8 character classes from Gauntlet: Dark Legacy, including the Poisoned Fields as the opening level and a secret path to the Mausoleum. The lack of permanent food purchases in shops drew criticism, but the remixes of the original soundtracks and the polished arcade-to-console transition impressed some fans. With its mix of cooperative brawling and dungeon crawling, it remains a niche entry for series veterans despite its dated mechanics.
