Gespalten puts you in the shoes of Mikael Herman after he blacks out during a school trip to Oscarsborg island. You wake up on April 9, 1940, inside a twisted version of the day Norwegian forces sank the Blücher. The game is a single player puzzle adventure where you navigate a dark world filled with war trauma while trying to solve mysteries and return to your own time in 2010. You will explore this nightmare landscape without clear instructions on how you arrived, relying on observation and logic to move forward. The story handles historical events with a heavy focus on horror rather than pure action. Players have rated the experience as a solid indie title that uses its setting to create genuine tension. The atmosphere feels oppressive as you piece together Mikael's fragmented memories against the backdrop of real conflict. It stands out for turning a specific historical date into a personal nightmare instead of just a history lesson. The puzzles force you to think about cause and effect while dealing with the emotional weight of the war setting. This approach makes the journey feel more grounded than typical supernatural horror games found in the same genre.
At a student trip to the island of Oscarsborg. A student named Mikael Herman blacks out and wakes up in a nightmarish version of the 9th of april 1940, the day the Norwegian defence forces sunk the German transportation ship Blücher. With problems remembering how he got there, Mikael must struggle to escape the dark, and find his way back to the present 2010, through a place of the fears and horror created by war. It is a horror driven story where the player is sent from 2010 to1940 and experience the historical events of the 2nd world war in Norway first hand, he needs to escape the darkness, and find his way back to his own time.
