GetsuFumaDen is a side-scrolling action game with light RPG mechanics. You control Fuuma, a warrior navigating a demon-ridden world to reclaim his clan’s stolen weapons and avenge his fallen brothers. The game alternates between a top-down overworld with branching paths and dungeon crawls. In the overworld, you explore to find shops, NPCs, and entrances to platform-based dungeons where you battle waves of enemies with melee and ranged attacks. Later sections shift to first-person maze navigation, mixing up the combat formula. Money collected in dungeons lets you upgrade gear and buy new weapons, adding a layer of progression to the fast-paced fights. What sets GetsuFumaDen apart is its mix of genres and layout shifts. The first-person sections feel abrupt but keep the gameplay fresh, while the branching world offers replayability. Though dated by today’s standards, it’s a relic from Konami’s 1980s era of experimental design. Action fans who don’t mind rough controls and limited visuals might appreciate its straightforward challenge. Storyline

In the first year of the Demon Age, the demon lord Ryuukotsuki escaped from hell and plotted to conquer the surface world ruled by the three Getsu brothers . The Getsu brothers fought against Ryuukotsuki, each wielding one of the three spiritual Pulse Blades that have been passed within the clan for generations. However, the brothers were ultimately defeated by the demon and only Fuuma, the youngest of the three, survived. Vowing to avenge his slain brothers, Fūma ventures into Kyouki-tou to recover the three stolen Pulse Blades and summon the spirits of his brothers to defeat Ryuukotsuki.
