Ghostlop is a two-player puzzle game where you shoot color-coded balls at floating ghosts to clear the screen. You control your character along the bottom while a ball bounces around like in classic breakout titles. The A and B buttons switch your shot between red and blue. Hitting a ghost of the same color destroys it instantly, but opposite colors just bounce off. This mechanic lets you thread shots through layers of different colored enemies to drop garbage onto your opponent. You must catch the ball when it returns or watch the enemy line advance higher. The prototype found in 2003 shows a game that feels tighter than many modern entries in the genre. Rockabilly music and lighthearted ghost hunters give it a distinct charm compared to later puzzle games. Data East developed this title for SNK before it never saw a full release. Collectors have since shared ROM images of the complete build online. It remains one of those rare arcade prototypes that actually played better than expected when finally tested out. The speed and color switching create a frantic pace that keeps matches engaging from start to finish.
