About

GNU Sudoku 64 is a stripped-down puzzle game for Commodore 64 users who still enjoy number grids. It follows the standard 9x9 Sudoku format with single-digit logic challenges. Players fill empty cells so each row, column, and 3x3 section contains numbers 1 through 9 without repetition. The interface uses simple text-based visuals common to 8-bit systems. Controls are limited to keyboard input with no advanced features like hints or autosaving. This public domain release has maintained a small but dedicated following among retro computing circles. While modern Sudoku games offer dozens of difficulty levels and themes, this version provides 100 static puzzles across four skill tiers. Community forums note its value as a functional port rather than a modernized remake. The 2006 release date makes it one of the earlier attempts to bring the puzzle phenomenon to classic home computers. Current C64 emulators can run the game without modification.
