Gorebreaker is a 2D fighting game sequel set in a galaxy where weapons think and fight for themselves. You play as Captain Plasma and Crystal Soldier, tasked with retrieving Xonader’s rogue armaments scattered on Earth. Combat blends melee strikes and energy blasts in fast-paced matches, with the story unfolding through brief cutscenes between battles. The single-player mode focuses on quick, punchy fights that emphasize timing and aggression over complex mechanics. The game’s sci-fi grindhouse vibe stands out, mixing organic weapon designs with over-the-top gore. While the campaign is short, the aggressive combat and retro pixel art appeal to fans of arcade brawlers. Community feedback highlights its brutal simplicity and quirky lore about self-aware guns. Gorebreaker’s niche charm hasn’t faded since its 2018 release, holding a 72% on Metacritic from critics who praised its frenetic energy.
Planet Xonader is the lifeblood of the intergalactic death industry. For thousands of years, its weapons have fuelled the galaxy’s most atrocious conflicts. Xonader's armaments are unlike any other tools of war – they are efficient "Thinking Weapons": semi-conscious organic and chemical elements that provide the wielder with both incredible firepower and augmented strategic awareness on the battlefield. When a Xonadian starship was forced to carry out an emergency crash landing on a remote planet called Earth, its cargo of weapons were ejected from the ship's hull by the emergency system and were strewn across the planet. Although the ship’s vital sensors indicate that the starship's commander is still alive, he remains uncontactable. Now, Xonader have dispatched a second ship with a new commander, Captain Plasma, and his loyal shipmate, Crystal Soldier. Their mission: to recover the weapons and shed light on what happened after the crash. However, what they will discover on Earth will disrupt the very fabric of their existence…
