About

Götzendiener flips the rescue trope on its head by making the princess her own hero. In this 1994 Turbografx-16 title, you play Misa, who must escape a deadly dungeon after her would-be savior falls. Combat happens in real time with a basic sword attack, while exploration requires manipulating objects and solving spatial puzzles. The isometric perspective shifts between action and top-down puzzle segments, demanding both reflexes and logic. Limited movement mechanics, no jumping buttons, just timed auto-jumps, add tension to platforming sections. Developed by Gainax, known for narrative depth in Princess Maker, this game blends action and brain-teasers in a retro package. Its mix of frantic brawling and methodical puzzle-solving stands out for its era, with a story that subverts medieval fantasy tropes. Though buried in a niche console library, its tight design and unexpected protagonist have earned it a cult following among classic adventure fans.

Storyline

The Demon God has abducted the princess Misa, intending to sacrifice her in order to restore his power. The king has sent an army to rescue his daughter, led by a knight who was carrying the legendary Sword of the Valiant. All the soldiers were killed by the minions of the Demon God, and only the brave knight survived. But as he delivered the fatal blow to the Demon God, he was himself mortally wounded by him. The princess Misa has no other choice but to take the Sword of the Valiant and to find a way to escape from the Demon God's dungeon, full of deadly traps and enemies...
