About

Gryphon is a platform shooter where you play a winged creature collecting gold to repair bridges blocked by aggressive foes. The action unfolds in single-screen levels where you dodge enemies, shoot projectiles, and manage resources to unlock progression. Combat and exploration are tightly linked, each bridge requires enough gold to rebuild, adding a layer of strategy to the fast-paced action. The Commodore 64’s hardware limits the visuals but the gameplay remains crisp and direct. The game’s charm lies in its tight loops of risk and reward. Early levels are manageable but difficulty spikes quickly as enemy variety and environmental hazards increase. With a 1984 release date it predates many modern platformer staples but its focus on incremental progression feels surprisingly familiar. Community playthroughs show completion times averaging 2-3 hours though mastery takes longer. A brisk, no-frills arcade experience that still feels satisfyingly punchy.
