Guilty Gear X is a high-octane 2D fighting game where you pick from 14 characters and battle in quick, three-round matches. Win rounds to score points and deplete your opponent’s health bar first. The gameplay is flashy and fast, with over-the-top animations and moves that mix brute force with clever combos. Each fighter has distinct abilities and a flair for chaos, making every match feel dynamic and unpredictable. The arcade mode keeps things simple, focusing on raw skill and showmanship. The game’s hand-drawn art style and kinetic energy set it apart, earning it a cult following and critical praise. It holds an 87/100 on Metacritic, with many citing its depth and accessibility as strengths. Over 20 years later, it still draws players with its tight mechanics and memorable characters like Sol Badguy and May. Community tournaments and modern ports keep it alive, proving it’s more than a nostalgic throwback. If you like punchy, visually wild brawlers, this one still hits hard.
Less than a year after the events of Guilty Gear, reports of a newly discovered commander Gear surfaced. Amid concern about a second war, another Holy Knights Tournament begins; whoever captures and kills Dizzy will receive 500,000 World Dollars. She is defeated, but her life is spared by Sol Badguy, as she proves to be inoffensive. Shortly after, she is found by Ky Kiske, the police chief of the United Nations and ex-chief of the Sacred Order of Holy Knights. He entrusts her care to Johnny and May, members of the Jellyfish Air Pirates, who welcome her as one of their own. Jam Kuradoberi, a bounty hunter and struggling chef, claims the credit for Dizzy's disappearance so she can collect the reward and finance her restaurant.
