Gunforce is a side-scrolling shooter where you battle through waves of enemies on a fire-ravaged island. You control a soldier armed with a rapid-fire weapon that can lock onto eight directions without holding the joystick. Levels let you grab vehicles like speed-boosting motorcycles and hovering helicopters to outmaneuver waves of attackers. A countdown timer pushes you to clear stages before time runs out losing a life if you falter. The arcade original and its 1992 Super Famicom port keep things tight and frantic with simple controls and escalating difficulty. The game’s blend of fast movement and bullet-saturated action set it apart in early 90s shooters. While its 1991 release date and Japan-only SNES version kept it niche its influence shows in later run-and-gun titles. Storyline

Parachuted out of a bomber, the player has landed into hostile territory to defeat the enemy who is threatening Mother Earth.
