About

.Hack//Quarantine is a PlayStation 2 RPG with beat-em-up mechanics set in a digital world where lines between game and reality blur. You play Kite, a player character tracking down missing allies while figuring out why others have fallen into comatose states after logging into The World. Combat mixes real-time action with menu-based skillcasting, letting you swap between hacking tools and melee attacks. The game continues the story from earlier .hack titles, with optional anime episodes on a bundled DVD that tie into the plot. Progress carries over from prior games in the series, letting you import saved data to continue your character’s journey. The game stands out for its layered narrative and tight integration with the broader .hack multimedia project. Players navigate shifting server environments like a glitchy Net Slum replica while chasing leads on a mysterious digital threat. Though dated by modern standards, its story-driven approach and cross-media elements earned it a dedicated following. CyberConnect2’s direction keeps the action brisk, even if the hack-and-slash loops grow repetitive. Fans of niche RPGs with cyberpunk themes and serialized storytelling might find it compelling, especially if they’ve followed the series from the start.

Storyline

Fresh off the victory against Gorre, Kite finds Elk still searching for Mia. Kite has no information, so Elk continues his search. Kite then moves on to the newly opened Ω Server to discuss the next move, but the server crashes, forcing Helba to connect everyone to her mirror server. Helba's server has all the same functions, except the server looks like Net Slum. Now that they are relatively safe, Helba says that the Wave is still moving and that she will work on a vaccine to defeat it. Lios then orders Kite to measure data fluctuations by going to Ω Bigoted Snowflake's Capsule. Shortly after getting the data for Lios, it is reported that the Nizato University Hospital, the place Yasuhiko is being hospitalized in, suffered a blackout. Kite does not have much time left. Luckily, he gets another clue from Net Slum resident Spiritas, who tells him of Harald having something to do with Σ Screaming Wind Sand's Fate Castle. At the bottom is yet another room, this time with a lone tree at sunset and another Epitaph fragment.
