About

Han Seimei Senki Andorogynus is a 1980s shoot-em-up where you guide a gender-shifting hero through waves of enemies. The action unfolds from a top-down view as the screen scrolls downward, a twist on the usual upward movement of the era. You start with basic firepower but can upgrade to spread shots and rapid-fire by grabbing power-ups that drop unpredictably. Your character is always surrounded by defensive orbs that help take damage from nearby threats, letting you focus on aiming. The game shifts mid-way as you swap to the female version of the protagonist, though the core gameplay stays focused on dodging and blasting. What sticks is the reversed scrolling and the gender-flipping mechanic, both rare for the time. The anti-matter story is buried under fast-paced action, but the dual protagonist angle and down-scrolling design mark it as distinct for retro shooter fans. Running on Japan-only 80s hardware, it’s remembered more for its quirks than its polish. Those chasing niche 80s arcade vibes might find it in modern emulator compilations.

Storyline

In our universe matter and anti-matter co-exist with each other. However, prevalence of anti-matter may create chaos and eventually disrupt the normal flow of things. In a corner of a universe, a concentration of anti-matter led to the creation of an entire star, breeding forms of life threatening to destroy the world. Human beings, in an effort to save the universe, created the powerful Andorogynus - a life form capable of being male and female at once - and sent it on a mission to destroy the creation of anti-matter.
