Hachiyoushou is a remake of a classic otome game that blends dating simulation with fantasy adventure. You play as Akane, a high school student dragged into a Heian-era inspired world with friends after a bizarre well mishap. Tasked with saving this realm from a demonic clan, you navigate political intrigue and romantic options through dialogue choices and relationship-building. The story unfolds via visual novel segments mixed with RPG-style quests, letting you shape interactions with eight key characters while balancing the fate of the kingdom and personal connections. The game adds new characters and expanded voice lines to the original formula, deepening its already rich narrative. Fans of slow-burn storytelling and historical fantasy settings often praise its detailed worldbuilding and character arcs. Though released in 2005, its cult following endures among visual novel enthusiasts who appreciate the mix of strategy and romance. The PlayStation 2 and PSP ports keep it accessible for players drawn to its mix of drama and destiny-driven plots.
On the first day of a new school term, high school student Akane Motomiya, her classmate Tenma Morimura, and their underclass friend Shimon Nagareyama are sucked into a mysterious old well. When they awake, they are in Kyō, another world that resembles Kyoto during the Heian Period. According to the young scion of the Star Clan, Fujihime, Akane is the Ryūjin no Miko, who has come to save Kyō from the ambitions of the Oni Clan. In this task, the Akane has the help of eight men known as the Hachiyō, and her friends Tenma and Shimon number among them. Initially, Akane is bewildered by her new circumstances, but she gradually comes to face up to her own destiny and understand the world of Kyō.
