Haunt was a planned spin-off featuring Boo from the Mario universe. You would have played as a young ghost finishing his time at Haunt University. The story focused on his graduation and what happens next in his life. Development stopped before release, so no gameplay footage exists to show how it actually functioned. We only know about the concept art released by former artist Sammy Hall back in 2020. This cancelled title stands out because of its fresh take on a classic character. Most Mario games treat ghosts as simple enemies or obstacles, but this project aimed for a narrative about growing up. The discovery of the artwork surprised fans who assumed such a story would never happen. It remains one of the most intriguing lost projects from Retro Studios. No community ratings exist since the game was never playable, making it a rare piece of Nintendo history that only lives on in sketches.
