Haunted Castle Revisited is a stripped-down, action-packed romp through a spooky gothic castle. You control a whip-wielding protagonist, dodging obstacles and slicing enemies in fast-paced platforming. The gameplay leans into simple mechanics but demands quick reflexes. Each level is a linear gauntlet of traps, bats, and undead foes. The controls are tight but the difficulty spikes abruptly, making for a testy, old-school arcade feel. No complex systems or story here, just you, your whip, and the wall of monsters coming at you. This version is part of a larger collection and brings the original 1986 Castlevania arcade title to modern systems. It hits PC, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and Switch in August 2024. Fans of the series know this is the rawest form of early Castlevania, but newcomers might find the punishing difficulty and lack of modern polish off-putting. It’s a direct throwback that plays more like a museum piece than a refined experience.
