Heartlight is a puzzle game where you guide a dwarf named Mosiek through underground caverns collecting hearts to unlock the next level. Each stage is a grid of tiles where you must avoid falling rocks and bottomless pits while using bombs to clear paths and balloons to navigate obstacles. The goal is to gather every heart in the level before the ground shifts and traps you. The game’s mechanics emphasize timing and spatial awareness, requiring you to plan moves carefully as the environment reacts to your actions. Originally released in the late 80s and early 90s, it’s been updated with modern graphics for recent platforms. What sets Heartlight apart is its longevity and accessibility. The game has survived decades through ports to DOS, Amiga, and now mobile and web browsers. Its open-source status since 2006 means players can even modify or expand the game themselves. With over 70 levels in the full version, it offers a compact but challenging experience that still feels fresh today. The simple tile-based design and increasing complexity of traps make it a test of patience and logic.
A game that's very similar to Boulder Dash - the basic idea of collecting things while avoiding being crushed is the same. The protagonist of the game is a dwarf named Mosiek, who decided to marry Rachel. A necessary condition, however, is showing the cunning and skill. He goes to a magical world in order to collect all the hearts. Assisting in completing the task are bombs and balloons, disturb stones and walls. In each level player must collect all the hearts, in order to open a door-portal to the next stage. The game features 64 levels.
