"Unrelenting and brutal, Helldivers delivers fast-paced combat, epic standoffs and a comical approach to death. Its enemies are varied, powerful and a constant threat to the players. While the full impact of the larger multiplayer experience remains to be seen, it still adds a nice little scratch to the progress itch. The strategem system provides great flexibility in squad building with many ways to build out team roles to maximize defensive and offensive capabilities. With procedural map generation and just enough mission and enemy variety to prevent a sense of repetition, the twelve levels of difficulty ought to keep players challenged for a good long time."

Helldivers 2 drops you into a chaotic war against alien hordes and robotic tyrants in service of Super Earth. Arrowhead Game Studios released this tactical third-person shooter on February 8, 2024. You can play it on PC, PlayStation 5, or Xbox Series X|S. The game features both single-player missions and co-op multiplayer where you team up with three other soldiers. It strips back the stealth of the original title to focus on frantic firefights and orbital strikes. This is a shooter about managing chaos rather than dodging every bullet. You call in support, drop bombs, and try not to get overrun by bugs or bots while defending objectives. The game came out recently but has already built a massive player base.
You control a soldier moving through varied terrain while facing endless swarms. The core loop involves pushing toward extraction points while managing your own ammo and health. Your squad coordinates airstrikes and laser calls that can turn the tide of battle instantly. A typical session lasts twenty minutes of intense shooting followed by a tense extraction run. You switch between primary weapons, sidearms, and stratagems that require you to call in drops from the sky. The controls feel responsive but heavy enough to make every movement count. Deaths are frequent and often caused by friendly fire or environmental hazards. You must communicate with your team to coordinate defensive lines and cover retreats. The game modes include standard missions and endless waves for grinding.
Critics and players agree this is a top-tier co-op experience. OpenCritic gives it an 82 out of 100 with 77.27% of reviewers recommending it. IGN called it one of the best co-op action experiences available, while The Jimquisition praised its smart humor at a score of 95. IGDB users rate it 84.9 out of 100 based on 284 ratings. Players spend an average of eight hours per session when the game is active. Achievement data shows only 55% of players unlock all 38 trophies, suggesting high difficulty. Community moods swing between frustration at friendly fire incidents and euphoria during successful defense plays. Most reviews highlight the mechanical depth and the sheer scale of enemy numbers.
This title is for players who enjoy chaotic team shooters over solitary campaigns. The $34.99 price point on Green Man Gaming makes it an accessible entry for a group. You will likely struggle to get all 38 achievements unless you play with a dedicated squad. The game demands constant communication and tactical awareness to survive the later waves. Avoid this if you prefer slow-paced stealth games or single-player narratives. It delivers exactly what it promises without unnecessary fluff. Grab it if you want a shooter that tests your ability to work under pressure.
