About HellPunk: Purgatorium

HellPunk: Purgatorium is a 2D action-gore roguelite from Urban Oasis, released on June 30, 2026. It’s a chaotic platformer where you play Asher Drake, a brooding antihero climbing a mechanical helltower to find his missing sister. The game blends fast-paced platforming with permadeath roguelite elements, set in a steampunk purgatory of clanking machinery and blood-soaked aesthetics. It’s a single-player sprint through procedurally generated levels, mixing combat, puzzle-solving, and relentless verticality. Expect sharp edges, dark humor, and a protagonist with a permanent scowl.

Gameplay

You control Asher Drake as he leaps, dodges, and bleeds through procedurally generated floors of the Tower. Each run starts with a randomly assigned weapon, chainsaw, flamethrower, etc., and a series of platforming challenges requiring precise jumps and timing. Combat is visceral and brutal, with exaggerated gore effects that splatter enemies in satisfyingly gory fashion. Between floors, you spend hard-earned upgrades to boost stats or unlock new abilities, but permadeath looms large if you fall off the tower. Boss fights mix platforming and combat, demanding both reflexes and strategy. The controls are tight but unforgiving, especially on higher floors where speed and complexity increase.

What Players Think

HellPunk: Purgatorium holds a 8.2/10 on PlayPile, with 62% of players completing the base story. Average playtime is 43 hours, though 38% of reviewers call it "annoying" due to punishing difficulty. Community moods are split: 78% find it frustrating, 51% label it satisfying. Critics praise its "bold aesthetic" but note "unbalanced difficulty spikes." Achievements total 100, with 500 points, focusing on speedruns, weapon mastery, and boss kills. Price is $29.99, with 53% of buyers recommending it for "hardcore platformer fans."

PlayPile's Take

This is a niche pick for players who thrive on challenge. The roguelite loop and procedural floors offer high replayability, but the difficulty curve may alienate casual players. At $29.99, it’s a mid-tier indie with a strong visual identity and rewarding upgrades. If you enjoy permadeath mechanics and don’t mind repeated deaths, HellPunk delivers a grim, gory ride. Skip if you prefer forgiving experiences or hate restart-heavy gameplay.
