Wildlight Entertainment dropped Highguard on January 26, 2026 after spending years building their reputation with Apex Legends and Titanfall fans. This title lands on PC, Xbox Series X|S, and PlayStation 5 as a pure multiplayer shooter experience. You play as Wardens, arcane gunslingers tasked with raiding a mythical continent alongside other players. The game strips away the solo campaign focus to concentrate entirely on competitive PvP raids where your squad controls the battlefield. It feels like a direct evolution of movement-based shooters but with heavy emphasis on team coordination and magical gunplay rather than just tactical shooting.
A typical session involves forming a four-person squad before jumping into large-scale raid maps. You move using parkour mechanics that feel familiar to anyone who played the developer's previous titles, allowing for vertical combat across rooftops and cliffsides. Your loadout consists of an arcane weapon paired with mobility gadgets that let you dash or grapple to new positions mid-fight. The core loop requires your team to secure objectives while defending against opposing squads trying to do the same. You must manage ammo reserves and cooldowns carefully since reloading leaves you vulnerable during intense firefights. Matches end when one team eliminates all opponents or captures a final stronghold, often lasting between twenty and thirty minutes depending on how stubborn the enemy team decides to be.
The PlayPile community has already formed strong opinions on Highguard since launch day. Players gave it an average rating of 4.2 out of 5 stars based on over twelve thousand reviews. Most users report spending roughly eighteen hours per week in the game, with a completion rate of sixty-eight percent for the core achievement set. The dominant mood in our forums is described as competitive yet collaborative, with sixty percent of recent posts praising the movement system while twenty-five percent criticize match-making balance issues. Critics on our site scored it a solid 85 out of 100, noting that the arcane gunplay adds fresh variety without breaking established shooter rules. Review snippets frequently mention the steep learning curve but also highlight how rewarding mastering the movement tech feels after a few dozen matches.
Highguard is worth your time if you already enjoy competitive shooters and have friends to squad up with. The price point sits at sixty dollars on all platforms, which includes access to the full multiplayer suite without any mandatory battle pass purchases for core gameplay. You will earn forty distinct achievements that track your kill streaks, objective captures, and specific weapon mastery levels. This game works best for players who want deep mechanical skill expression over casual pick-up-and-play sessions. It is not a perfect title since balance patches remain necessary, but the core loop remains engaging enough to keep you logging in for weeks. Buy it if you are looking for your next serious multiplayer commitment.

This game is not comparable to Concord, Marathon, or Highguard in basically any way except that it’s a multiplayer video game. Foundationally different designs, economies, and engagement structures, plus a considerably smaller team. Lots to learn from this than just screenshotting SteamDB

"And now...Game of the Year goes to... 'Albert the Halberd' from Minotti Games!" "Accepting on behalf of Minotti Games, Nintendog Jeffrey Grubb!" "Mike couldn't be here today, because... he finally turned into the Keyblade. I've forgotten him already." *Geoff, stage left* "This. Is Highguard 2."

As a follow up to this, it's okay if your game is broken and unbalanced, as long as the result is still fun for players. Balance isn't the end all be all, as Highguard learned the hard way.

If I really had to get down to brass tacks and engagement farm before the summer brings a bunch of games I want to play, my current 2026 game ranking is: 1. Marathon 2. Lego Batman 3. Resident Evil 9 4. Highguard 5. Yoshi and the Mysterious Book 6. Tomodachi Life 7. Pragmata 8. Mario Tennis Fever

Because no matter how much you might have loved Highguard, you can't play it anymore. Player count and sales now become something that is crucial to determining if a GaaS game will even be around in three months. Gamers have to become business forecasters to determine if a game will be playable.

I have never heard of this game, I didn't hear of Highguard or Concord until they were already dead. What is going on with the marketing teams?
