About

Himitsu no Hanazono is a 1990s visual novel that mixes school life simulation with a murder mystery. You play Kōsuke, a high schooler drawn into a strange case after a mysterious new teacher arrives. The story unfolds through dialogue and choices that often shift conversation paths but rarely alter the main plot. A top-down camera lets you roam school halls and grounds freely, clicking to move between locations as you gather clues and interact with characters. The gameplay leans heavily on branching dialogue options, with most decisions shaping tone more than outcomes. Despite its age, the game’s blend of student life and detective work feels distinct. Released in 1992, it ran on niche platforms like the PC-9800 and Turbografx-16, giving it a cult status among retro visual novel fans. Its straightforward mystery and the tension between academic routine and criminal intrigue set it apart from more plot-driven peers. Players who appreciate methodical exploration and light narrative puzzles over complex branching stories might find it intriguing.

Storyline

A high-school student named Kōsuke had a dream, in which he saw a beautiful woman talking to him. The next morning he found out that the new teacher looked very similar to the woman he saw. After overhearing a conversation, Kōsuke realizes that the new teacher is in fact a detective sent to investigate the murder of a female student that occurred in the gym. The young man has to play his cards right in order to become part of the investigation, solve the mystery, and perhaps impress the attractive teacher in other ways.
