Hinge VR drops you into a crumbling Art Deco skyscraper warped by occult rituals and pandemic-era paranoia. As a guest at the building’s grand opening, you wander its twisting halls and gilded apartments, piecing together the fate of its vanished residents. The environment pulses with eerie sound design and shifting geometry, turning every creak and flickering light into a potential threat. Survival hinges on stealth, puzzle-solving, and avoiding the grotesque entities that stalk the space. The VR format amplifies tension with 360-degree dread, no place to hide from the creeping unease. The game’s strength lies in its layered atmosphere and unsettling narrative. The early 20th-century setting blends historical dread with supernatural horror, anchored by a story of cults and cosmic collapse. While combat is minimal, the focus on exploration and environmental storytelling keeps players invested. With a Metacritic score of 78, it’s praised for its bold visuals and psychological tension, though some note pacing dips in quieter moments. Best for fans of slow-burn horror that leans into mystery over jump scares.
The game is set in an American metropolis of the early 20th century right after the Spanish flu epidemic. It takes place in a skyscraper full of fashionable Art Deco apartments, built by an eccentric millionaire (who is actually an occultist and the head of a mysterious cult). Once the skyscraper is built and finally opened, its owner runs the great ceremony and invites many different people. But on that night, something mystical happens and transfers the building with all its inhabitants into a nightmarish reality, where the laws of physics, chemistry, and space are broken and time is collapsed.
