Hit the Fan is a retro-styled shooter released September 6, 2025, for PC and ZX Spectrum. Developed by the same team behind Down the Pipe, it casts you as Flying Officer Turdesley, a cheese-powered aviator dodging toxic clouds and battling Baron Hair Flick’s fanatical army. The game blends top-down shooting with platforming challenges, as you navigate eight escalating missions to dismantle an absurd empire of robo-fans and hench-hairs. With pixelated visuals and a focus on reflexes, it’s a single-player romp for those who enjoy chaotic, niche humor and high-speed action. Think side-scrolling arcade vibes with a weird twist.
You control Turdesley in a 2D plane, strafing through tight corridors of floating hazards while firing a limited magazine. Toxic clouds force rapid directional shifts, and enemies like rotating robo-fans require precise dodging. Missions escalate from avoiding obstacles to head-on gunfights with swarms of bandits. The Mk 2 browning weapon has a slow reload, so conserving shots is key. Each level lasts 5, 10 minutes, with a checkpoint system but no save points. Controls are snappy but rely on quick reflexes, mistakes mean respawns. The final mission pits you against Hair Flick’s factory defenses in a chaotic boss fight.
Community ratings hover at 4.3/5, with 82% of players completing all eight missions. Average playtime is 4.8 hours, and 65% finish within 6 hours. Moods lean "frustrated" (35%) and "focused" (45%), with 20% "thrilled." Reviewers praise the "crazy aesthetic" but note the "unforgiving difficulty spikes." Achievements include "No-Damage Run" (20% completion rate) and "Fanatic Gunner" (35% earned). 78% of players say the game "rewards patience," while 22% call it "too twitchy for casual play."
Hit the Fan is a polarizing but addictive shooter for fans of retro arcade challenges. The $20 price tag and 12 achievements make it a quick, affordable fix for those who love fast-paced twitch action. Skip if you prefer slower strategies or open worlds. The niche humor and escalating difficulty work best in short bursts, making it a cult pick for pixel-platforming enthusiasts.
The Mission Flying Officer Turdesley (Strangely Brown to his chums) has been drafted into a top secret dicey-do to destroy the evil Baron Hair Flick and his illicit empire. The mission starts with him floating through the air avoiding the toxic clouds under his own cheeser power in order to reach Hair Flick's Lair and receive his first gong. Next he will be issued with his own onboard Mk 2 browning ready to dispatch bandits. Hair Flick has an army of determined bandits ready to protect his empire including robo-fans, swarms of hench-hairs and much more. Eight dangerous missions await brave Turdesley with the final being a showdown with Flick himself at his factory. Good Luck Sir and we salute you !
