About

HMUR is a retro-inspired first person shooter that channels the chaotic energy of 90s FPS classics. You play Sergei, a maintenance worker trapped in a collapsing Soviet research facility after a catastrophic experiment goes wrong. Blast through hordes of mutated enemies in flickering, cluttered corridors while managing limited ammo and health. The game emphasizes speed over strategy, quick reflexes and aggressive movement are essential to survive the relentless waves of attackers. Sparse dialogue and environmental storytelling set the scene in a gritty alternate 1990s USSR. The game stands out for its deliberately rough-around-the-edges design. Pixelated enemies swarm in unpredictable patterns while the Soviet-era setting mixes propaganda posters with surreal sci-fi elements. Weapon pickups feel haphazard yet satisfying, encouraging risk-taking during frantic gunfights. With a runtime of around three to four hours, HMUR delivers a short but intense experience that leans into its arcadey roots. The chaotic fun has earned it a cultish 82% on Metacritic from fans of old school shooter intensity.

Storyline

The action unfolds in an alternate 1990s version of USSR. The city of Mirnogorsk is located in the depths of Khakassia, a city that is the pride of the Union, a center of innovation and progress. The high-tech facilities of this city embodied the vision and hopes for a bright future of every citizen. Yet, a tragic accident turned the pride of the Soviet Union into chaos, bringing the protagonist, Sergei, into the center of it. A mere utility worker with a challenging fate.
