About

Hokuto no Ken: Seikimatsu Kyuuseishu Densetsu is a 1v1 fighting game adapted from the iconic Fist of the North Star manga. Set in a post-nuclear wasteland ruled by biker gangs, you play as Kenshiro, a martial artist who wields the Hokuto Shin Ken to purge the weak from tyrants. Combat focuses on brutal close-range strikes, with moveset variations tied to the series' signature techniques. The single-player mode follows a straightforward mission structure as Kenshiro targets warlords exploiting the lawless world. The game leans heavily into the source material's gritty aesthetic and over-the-top violence, though its mechanics feel dated by modern standards. Despite a dedicated fanbase for the franchise, this PlayStation title remains obscure outside Japan where it was exclusively released. Its direct approach to translating the manga's spirit into brawls appeals to longtime followers but lacks the depth to convert newcomers.

Storyline

The story takes place in the year 199X. The exact date is unimportant, and most probably unknown, because civilization has been all but destroyed by nuclear war. Earth is now a barren wasteland, complete with marauding mohawked motorcycle punks. With the loss of advanced weapons and technologies, these brigands leaders wield power through the use of martial arts whose ancient secrets give them mystical powers. Into this lawless nightmare strides a living engine of Justice: Kenshiro, master of a secret martial art called Hokuto Shin Ken. Ken eradicates any evildoers he comes across when they prey upon the weak.
