About

HomeGrove mixes platforming with some unusual side mechanics you rarely see in a sidescroller. You control a member of a spirit tribe that must protect their land after their guardian deity passes away. The gameplay loop involves punching enemies, grabbing objects, and cooking food to survive as strange new creatures invade the area. You can collect items, unlock abilities, and even play instruments to change the environment while you explore each level. This title feels like a love letter to older games but adds its own twist by letting you interact with the world in unexpected ways. The story about the forgotten purpose of the tribe sets a melancholic tone that contrasts with the active gameplay. Players on PlayPile have noted how the cooking system adds a fresh layer of strategy to the combat. Blake Fix built this single player experience to feel both nostalgic and surprisingly new without relying on common genre tropes.

Storyline

There once was a deity, a divine spirit, loving and pure. For eons it would care for the land and for creatures of pure spirit. However a time finally came when the spirit had to die. Before passing, the deity created a small tribe of creatures to protect the land, and so they did. It was peaceful for an era, for so long in fact that their original purpose was all but forgotten. Then, suddenly, the peaceful times came to an end. Less intelligent creatures became aggressive, and new, strange creatures have appeared... but why?
