Homestuck is a large visual novel that mixes episodic storytelling with interactive choices. Players follow a cast of high schoolers whose lives spiral into chaos after they install a mysterious game called Sburb. The story weaves through absurd humor, sci-fi twists, and a cast of alien trolls with exaggerated horns and sharp tongues. Each decision shapes the path forward, though the narrative often veers into metafictional tangents and dense internet references. The game’s cult following stems from its decade-long runtime and relentless creativity. Originally posted online in 2009, it raised over $5.7 million on Kickstarter in 2012 to polish its chaotic vision. Players often cite its meme-driven dialogue and unpredictable plot shifts as highlights. With over 200 hours of content and a passionate modding community, it remains a touchstone for fans of nonlinear storytelling.
A group of teens unwittingly bring about the end of the world by installing the beta version of an upcoming computer game, Sburb. The teens soon come into contact with a group of Internet trolls who are revealed to be horned aliens, and these trolls work with the kids to create a new universe by completing the game.
