Horace and the Spiders is a ZX Spectrum platformer where you navigate three distinct levels filled with arachnid-themed obstacles. The first stage has you jumping over spiders while climbing a hill, followed by a bridge-crossing level that requires swinging on elastic threads. The final stage turns into a frenetic web-jumping challenge as you punch holes in the spiders' net and bounce on them for points. Controls are simple but demand timing and precision, with a focus on platforming over combat. The game stands out for its varied level design, each offering a different core mechanic. While the early stages echo Pitfall’s jungle dashes and Smurf’s bridge puzzles, the last level is nearly identical to Space Panic’s collapsing floors. Released exclusively on the Spectrum in 1983, it’s a short but technically sound entry in the Horace series. Players familiar with 8-bit platformers often note its stark contrast to the first two games while appreciating the creative use of spider-based hazards across its three acts.
