Horde: The Citadel is a point-and-click real-time strategy sequel that expands on its predecessor’s systems while deepening the struggle between Semirek defenders and nomadic invaders. Players navigate a landlocked battlefield, managing resources, building bases, and commanding units to complete objectives across nine larger maps. The game retains the original’s core mechanics but introduces new structures, units, and terrain types. Each map features two Semirek outposts for diplomacy or support, adding layers to exploration and strategy. The interface remains point-and-click, balancing action and planning as you clear obstacles and confront enemies in real time. The game’s standout elements are its expanded map design and added interactions. With higher resolution visuals but unchanged sprite scaling, more battlefield detail is visible without overcomplicating controls. New items and terrain create fresh challenges, while the focus on sequential map exploration maintains progression. Though released in 2001, its blend of resource management and tactical combat still appeals to fans of classic RTS titles. The added settlements and negotiation options offer more flexibility than the first game, making each mission feel distinct.
