Hugo is a side-scrolling platformer that pits a plucky troll against a witch determined to keep her grip on youth. Players take control of Hugo as he battles through forests and caves to rescue his family from Scylla’s clutches. The game blends simple controls with light puzzle-solving and combat, using basic attacks and environmental tricks to clear paths. Single-player runs the gauntlet alone or teams up with a friend in split-screen co-op to share the load. Each level is a mix of running, jumping and dodging enemies with a focus on straightforward progression. Released in late 1998 Hugo stands out for its lighthearted tone and cooperative play. The split-screen mode was a hit in arcades and living rooms letting two players tackle challenges side by side. While the visuals and mechanics are dated the game’s colorful environments and family-friendly stakes made it a niche favorite. Fans of classic co-op platformers might appreciate the simplicity though modern systems won’t run it without emulation. Still it’s a quirky relic of PlayStation’s early days with a story that mixes magic and mild mischief.
The players have their hands full to once again rescue Hugolina and the troll kids from Scylla, who needs them to regain her youth. Will the player be able to free Hugo's family and bring peace to the forest, or will the evil witch finally manage to defeat the little troll this time?
