About

Hugo: Winter Games is a 1997 PC arcade game where you play as Hugo the troll fixing holiday chaos in Santa’s village. Each day leading to Christmas Santa reads a chapter from an Advent book which unlocks a new minigame. Tasks range from sledding and ice skating to rescuing lost toys. The goal is to undo spells cast by the witch Scylla who’s turned the village upside down. Gameplay is fast and repetitive with simple controls focused on timing and reflexes. The story beats are delivered through brief cutscenes and Santa’s narration between levels. The game stands out for its charmingly crude 90s animation and festive cheer. While mechanics are basic the holiday theme and progression through the Advent calendar add a cozy rhythm. It’s a quick nostalgic pick for fans of old-school holiday games. The formula was reused in later Hugo titles but this first entry remains the most straightforward. At just a few hours long it’s a light seasonal diversion with no modern polish but plenty of yuletide spirit.

Storyline

Christmas is coming and Santa Claus enjoys the festive season, however the evil witch Scylla decided to mess everything in his small, cozy village to spoil Santa's Christmas mood. To deal with the situation, Santa calls for help Scylla's number one enemy: the troll Hugo! Now, Hugo needs to restore everything to the right state so Santa can get back into the Christmas spirit in time. Hugo likes to read stories, so Santa reads him a chapter from his Advent book every day. In the end, after Hugo removes the spell Scylla cast on the village, the final task awaits him as now will fight the witch herself.
